CRITIQUE TO THE BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE OF RUDOLF STEINER

The topic where I have seen most people praise Rudolf Steiner is in his "biodynamic agriculture" but there are also experts who do not agree with him and one of them is Stuart Smith.

Stuart is a veteran winegrower of forty years. He was schooled in the sciences while working on his master’s degree at U.C. Davis in Viticulture and Enology. His course work included basic chemistry, inorganic, organic and bio-chemistry, bacteriology, biology, plant propagation along with the specialized courses unique to the Viticulture and Enology Department.

He was the department’s first Teaching Assistant to Professors Maynard Amerine and Vern Singleton. In the early 1970’s he was an instructor of Viticulture and Enology at Napa Community College for several years and for another ten years at Santa Rosa Junior College.

So he is academically well prepared, but he is also very experienced in practice since in the fall of 1970 he first walked 200 acres of forested land on the top of Spring Mountain, located just west of St. Helena in the Napa Valley.

And in early 1971, with a small partnership of family and friends he was able to purchase the land and start Smith-Madrone Vineyards & Winery.

Well, Stuart Smith opened a blog where he details the reasons why he is very skeptical with the techniques that Rudolf Steiner taught, because as Stuart Smith said:

« Austrian Philosopher Rudolf Steiner gave a series of lectures and discussions on Agriculture in June 1924 to a group of his followers in Koberwitz, Poland.

These lectures on Agriculture became the foundation for Biodynamics which in recent years has been embraced by an ever widening group of wineries around the world.

However, after reading Steiner, I conclude that Rudolf Steiner was a complete nutcase, a flimflam man with a tremendous imagination, and his books, writings and lectures should be catalogued under science fiction.

But don’t understand me. It is not an attack on organic or sustainable farming; both of which I support. What I am against is the delirious way that Rudolf Steiner deals with them. And I do not like his hypocrisy, because in his first lecture given on June 7, 1924, Rudolf Steiner began by saying:

-      "It ought to be clear to anyone that people have no right to talk about agriculture, including its social and organizational aspects, unless they have a sound basis in agriculture, and really know what it means to grow grain or potatoes or beets."

But Rudolf Steiner had never been a farmer, yet he delivered these lectures on Agriculture!

And that is why I decided to open the blog titled:

Because someone has to speak up. »

And in his blog you can read the following 33 articles:

MY OPINION REGARDING

One point that I see against Stuart Smith's analysis is that he has no esoteric knowledge, his analysis is only made from a scientific point of view and therefore he is not aware of the hidden aspects of the Creation.

But it is also a fact that he is an expert in viticulture who knows a lot and therefore you have to pay attention to what he says.

And I will progressively comment his articles, but once I wanted to present them to those who want to dig deeper into the biodynamic agriculture taught by Rudolf Steiner.

And something that impressed me a lot is that Stuart Smith analyzing Rudolf Steiner from the point of view of agriculture came to the same conclusion as I, when I analyzed Rudolf Steiner from the point of view of esotericism:

-      Rudolf Steiner was a fanatic man with a huge imagination, but whose books should be put in the category of fantasy and not as a transcendental teaching because he often raves.

RUDOLF STEINER AFFIRMS THAT THE EARTH CREATED THE SUN

This asseveration can surprise you a lot, but I assure you that it is true. In his book Cosmic Memory (1904) in Chapter IX entitled "Origin of the Present Earth and Extrusion of the Sun", Rudolf Steiner begins by saying:

« We shall now follow the Akasha Chronicle back into that remote past in which our present Earth had its beginning. By “Earth” is to be understood that condition of our planet by virtue of which it can support minerals, plants, animals, and men in their form of today. »

Then Rudolf Steiner tells how the planet and humans have densified from the astral plane to the physical plane, but he does so in a very vague and very different way how Blavatsky explained it, which shows that Mr. Steiner read the Secret Doctrine but he did not understand it, and that is why he put an abstruse explanation to pretend that he also had an occult knowledge.

And when Earth finally materialized, Rudolf Steiner wrote the following:

« We are now dealing with a physical earth which is composed of the following kinds of matter: water, air, light ether, chemical ether and life ether.

There now follows an important cosmic event. The sun is extruded. Thereby certain forces simply leave the earth. These forces are composed of a part of what hitherto had existed on earth in the life ether and in the chemical and light ether. These forces, so to speak, were withdrawn from the earth.

A radical change thereby took place among groups of terrestrial beings which previously had contained these forces within themselves. They all suffered a transformation.

Those which have been called plant beings above, first suffered such a transformation. A part of their light ether forces was taken from them. They could then develop as organisms only when the force of light, which had been withdrawn from them, acted upon them from the outside. Thus the plants came under the influence of the sunlight.

Something similar happened with human bodies. From then onward, their light ether also had to act together with the light ether of the sun in order to be capable of life. But not only those beings themselves which lost the light ether were affected; the others were affected too. For in the world everything interacts.

Those animal forms, too, which did not contain light ether themselves had previously been irradiated by their fellow beings on earth and had developed under this irradiation. Now they also came under the immediate influence of the external sun.

The human body in particular developed organs receptive to the sunlight, that is, the first rudiments of human eyes.

The consequence of the extrusion of the sun was a further material densification of the earth. Solid matter developed from fluid; likewise the light ether separated into another kind of light ether, and into an ether which gives bodies the capacity to increase temperature. With this, the earth became an entity which developed heat within itself. »

So, according to Steiner, when Earth materialized, the Sun came out of the planet and was formed from the ethereal substance of Earth and the beings that inhabit it...

Wow!  I rarely had read anything so delirious and so incoherent in all aspects, scientific, esoteric, or simply the mere use of reasoning.

I read it again to see if I had misinterpreted his explanation, but no, that is exactly what Rudolf Steiner said. And in the next chapter, he twice insists again that the Sun was formed from Earth, since he wrote:

  • "The Luciferic entities could participate in the earthly creation up to the point at which sun split off from earth."
  • "After the separation of earth and sun, an activity began on earth."

And now I will explain why this statement is absolutely false.

Scientifically, there is no way that the Sun has come from the Earth, because how could our little world could create a star whose mass is 333'000 times greater than our planet and whose volume is more than a million times higher than Earth??????

Where did it get the energy, where did it get the material?

That is absurd!

And in no true esoteric teaching they said this barbarity since all of them specify that the Sun is the creator of our solar system.

Master Kuthumi wrote to Mr. Hume:

« The sun is the great nourishing father of our planetary system. »
(Mahatma Letter, p.498)

And also Master Kuthumi wrote to Mr. Sinnett:

« The sun is the heart and brain of our little universe that is the solar system. »
(ML 23B, p.164)

And this is proof that Rudolf Steiner was not in contact with Master Kuthumi as he claimed.

But the Theosophical teachers are not the only ones who affirm that, because all the great esoteric instructors that I know say the same thing. For example Master Pasteur on this subject explained:

« Why does the creator of the solar system [the Solar Logos] live in the sun?

Because the sun is the most spiritualize celestial body of the solar system. And besides, what better throne could this great Divine Being have chosen than this place of space which is the point of diffusion of divine energy, because the sun is the energetic source of all life.

Although for the moment you only perceive its most material aspects, that is: light, heat, solar dust, etc. »
(Conference, 06.27.85)

And the angel in the book Talking with Angels, on the sun he said the following:

« When the sun appears in the morning, the earth pays homage to his Creator. »
(Conversation 15)

« The sun is the king of his little universe [the solar system] and that is why his planets revolve around him. »
(Conversation 58)

So as you can see, no serious instructor says such an aberration that sun came out of the earth. And the question that one can ask is:

Why did Rudolf Steiner say such absurdity?

And when one knows the Catholic doctrine, the answer is easy to guess.

Rudolf Steiner surely declared this nonsense simply because he was a religious fanatic who wanted at all costs to make his "esoteric teaching" correspond with what is written in the Bible, since at the beginning of Genesis is written that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth in the first day, and only in the fourth day He create the sun".

But what this guy did not understand is that this description is symbolic and therefore it should NOT be interpreted literally. !!!!!

CONCLUSION

And this is another example of how delirious Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophical teaching can be.

OBSERVATIONS

The followers of Rudolf Steiner have tried to knock down this article telling me that when the sun came out of the earth, it was not about our present planet but about an earlier manifestation of earth.

However, this is wrong because clearly Rudolf Steiner specified that what he was going to tell corresponded to the actual Earth as we know it today and not to a "previous manifestation". So this argument is a lie from Rudolf Steiner's supporters.

Others have told me that indeed a sun has come out of the earth, but it is not the sun in the sky, it is a "spiritual sun".

But once again that is false because Rudolf Steiner clearly states that after the sun left the earth, the inhabitants of the planet began to need the light that the sun emitted to be able to continue existing, and that's why Mr. Steiner wrote:

-      "The plants began to live under the influence of the light of that sun that had come out.
-      "And the animals have also begun to live under the immediate influence of that sun which became external."
-      "And in the human body, particular organs sensitive to the light began to develop, that is the first rudiments of human eyes."

So that is another lie from Rudolf Steiner's defenders to try to cover up their guru. But the reality is that Rudolf Steiner really assured that our current sun came out of our current planet !!!

And although in the 21st century, we know that this is a complete absurdity, it should be noted that this affirmation Rudolf Steiner wrote it at the beginning of the 20th century, a time when some people thought that this could be possible because at that time, space exploration had not started yet, and people still knew very little about the solar system.

For example, people (and even scientists) thought that other planets were also physically inhabited, and that in the dark side of the moon could find organic life, etc.

And as in the Bible it is mentioned that God first created the earth and only later the sun and the moon, so Rudolf Steiner considers that, if at the beginning there was only the earth, it was normal that the other celestial bodies came out of our planet.

But if Rudolf Steiner had really had esoteric knowledge as he so pretended, he would know that this affirmation was a complete stupidity, because as I showed you, all great instructors affirmed that the sun is the true creator of our solar system.

And even if Rudolf Steiner had no esoteric knowledge, but if he had only paid more attention to what is written in the Secret Doctrine instead of just repudiating it, he would have noticed that there Blavatsky pointed out that our sun is 1300 times bigger than our planet (Vol. II, p.708).

Then Rudolf Steiner might have thought that in the face of that enormous difference in size, it would not be such a good idea to finally declare that the sun came out of the earth, but this man was a liar who lets himself be carried by his religious fanaticism, he makes this asseveration without noticing that with it, he was also demonstrating his charlatanism.

RUDOLF STEINER AND CLAIRVOYANCE

(The text below is an extract of the article written by the United Lodge of Theosophists in England, and you can read it here.)

The following text is from Antony Philip Halas, who lived in Athens, Greece, was for some years in written communication with London ULT, having become a ULT associate in 1954. We make no interpretation of Mr. Halas' account but leave entirely to the readers. It would be useful to read it in conjunction with our article:

THE DANGERS OF UNTIMELY CLAIRVOYANCE

By Antony Philip Halas (author and journalist)

“Beware of false prophets. Ye shall know them by their fruits. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”
(Matthew 7, 16-18)

- - -

« Bewildered by the astounding rumors concerning the work of that prolific writer Mr. Rudolf Steiner (the famous founder of the University of Occultism “Goetheanum” at Dornach, Basel, Switzerland, and of the epoch-making School of “Anthroposophy”); and being since my earliest youth devoted to the pursuit of Knowledge and Truth – I thought it advisable to obtain all his existing works.

One of Rudolf Steiner’s works, which particularly attracted my attention, was: “How can a man obtain consciousness or knowledge of the higher Worlds.” As soon as I obtained possession of the book in question, I began studying it with the enthusiasm and transport of a neophyte, carried away by the mastery of the great writer.

When I came to that portion of the book, where the author gives with painstaking examples and facts all desirable details for those who wish to become clairvoyant, – I blessed my good luck and stars for coming across such an unexpected treasure, the more so as I was athirst to be once for all deprived of my spiritual blindness and obtain at last the intensely longed for Internal Sight and regain the function of my Third Eye.

Alas! How far away I still was from that “consummation, devoutly to be wished”!

How uninformed and unaware was I of the horrible dangers that were lurking around me!

With avidity and eagerness I devoured every page, fervently perusing every detail, ready to fulfill every instruction and commandment. As I was told in that book that I ought to buy a multifaced crystal, I immediately did so; and though more than thirty years have elapsed since that time, my life was full of startling events and adventures and in the meantime – I still have in my possession this relic, which I preserve as a sacred memorial and a token of gratitude towards my greatest Benefactor, who, as I will narrate soon, intervened miraculously at the right moment and checked me in time from continuing to put in practice to their full extent the most dangerous methods.

Strictly and faithfully following Rudolf Steiner’s instructions, I used to get up early in the morning, an hour before the rising of the Sun and for more than a fortnight I was deeply and earnestly meditating on the seed’s evolution and development, i.e. on its germination, on its embryo, integuments and endosperm, on its growth, which gives rise to the stem of the plant.

To cut it short, having before me the seed, and carefully complying myself with Rudolf Steiner’s instructions, I mentally followed the whole evolution of plant life: birth or germination, growth, blooming, flowering, marriage, impregnation or perpetuation of kind, fruit bearing or seed bearing, waning, withering or decline, old age, death.

A similar exercise consisted in meditating on the sperm of an animal and man: namely, on the whole evolution of animal life from birth to death. Needless to say that I did not miss be it one single exercise of those promising to endow me with the Second Sight, Clairvoyance, Clairaudience or Spiritual Sight and Hearing.

Side by side with the above mentioned exercises, always in strict accordance with Rudolf Steiner’s instructions, I was earnestly engaged in crystal gazing.

Under such circumstances, predispositions and tendencies or “gifts” was I devoutly engaged in the dangerous practices, so light-heartedly and copiously lavished and described with every possible detail and without any precaution or restraint in that treacherous and misguiding book.

The catastrophe was imminent. I was doomed to unrepairable wreckage, to which I was approaching at full speed and as sure as two and two are four.

Fortunately some one was watching over me!

A fortnight or so since I had started the above mentioned exercises one unforgettable night (thirty years ago or more) I was visited, when in Spirit, by a dark haired and bearded Man, in the full of his manhood, whose blooming health and exuberant vitality.

He addressed me in French and said in an imperative and convincing voice:

-      “I am an occultist and I shadow you. Beware! Death waits for you.”

I, at once understanding the meaning of his warning, replied:

-      “How could I satisfy my unquenchable thirst for knowledge?”

My benevolent Benefactor replied:

-      “My answer will be given you by means of a verse of Pindar.”

And, saying so, he recited in ancient Greek the following quotation:

-      “When the Sun shines in the vastness and chaos of Heavens, and you, my Soul, want to sing, praise, and celebrate the deeds, fame, and merits of a Hero or Heroine, you will in vain seek therein another star worthy of more exaltation or glorification: no rival dares to appear before the unsurpassed Glory of the Lord of Sky.”

And when I asked him to point out to me the Intellectual or Spiritual Hero, who could so fully, satisfactorily, and radically quench my thirst for knowledge, my Benefactor put his right hand in the inner pocket of his jacket and took something, which he showed me.

It was a Portrait of Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky!

And that's why I contacted you, and I do not regret it because I discovered that the Theosophical teaching is the most complete and profound of all esoteric writings»

(Note: I translated into English from my corresponding article in Greek, published in the “Scientific Encyclopaedia,” Athens, 1958)

OBSERVATIONS

I can not tell you if that meeting that Mr. Halas had with this mysterious man really happened or was the product of his imagination, but I still put his story here because there are interesting things to comment.

To begin, the fact that Rudolf Steiner gives his readers techniques to develop their clairvoyance, shows that Steiner was not in contact with the Masters as he claimed, because the Masters warned that it is not convenient to want to awaken the occult faculties while the person has not yet developed his spirituality, because then the person will open his aura and runs the risk of being very easily parasitized, vampirized and even possessed by the lower entities of the astral.

And that is why it is necessary to first develop spirituality, because the best protection to avoid being invaded by dark entities, is precisely through the light that a higher spiritual being emanates and moves away all those harmful entities.

On the other hand, I do not know if the techniques taught by Rudolf Steiner to activate the Third Eye are effective or not, although personally I doubt it very much because Steiner shown a terrible clairvoyance and he was a very liar man.

However, as Master Pasteur explained, an important factor is the intention you put in your effort to achieve that, and since Mr. Halas already had his faculty a little developed and he was putting a lot of intension, it is likely that regardless if the exercises he was carrying out were useful or not, he was still awakening his clairvoyance through his effort, but at the cost of endangering his evolution.

And that's why it does not matter if this mysterious man was a true being, or his subconscious who may have taken that appearance to warn him, because his message certainly prevented him from getting lost in the psyche because of following deceitful instructors and not having deeply studied the true esotericism.

THE LIES THAT RUDOLF STEINER SAID ABOUT BLAVATSKY AND THE MASTERS

It was later of year 1907, that Rudolf Steiner’s disturbingly pro-Christian bias began to truly come to the fore, coupled with increasingly open disparagement of H.P. Blavatsky. He stated that there are two methods or paths of initiation available nowadays for spiritual aspirants in the West.

What are they?  Who has made them available?

Steiner explained that:

« The Master Jesus and the Master Christian Rosenkreuz have prepared two ways of initiation for us, i.e., the Christian esoteric way and the Christian Rosicrucian way. Both ways have been in existence since the Middle Ages. However, as materialism grew, the spiritual life disappeared more and more from the consciousness of humanity. At the end of the last century materialism had advanced so much that humanity would have perished if it had not received a new spiritual impulse. Only one person could be found whose psychic faculties enabled her to hear the voice of the Masters. This was H.P. Blavatsky. »

So he is speaking highly of HPB after all…or is he?

No, sadly not, for he follows this with the barefaced lie – completely unproven and unprovable by anyone or anything except his own prejudiced imagination and psychic fantasies – that HPB’s true intended work and mission had been “in the sense of Christian Esotericism, as had been her purpose.”

Such a revelation will astound anyone even remotely familiar with the life, work, and teachings of HPB. Not a single page or paragraph in the story of her life will lend support to Steiner’s claims. Yet what has been said, written, and recorded, by many others, including HPB herself, counted for nothing with Steiner, for he believed his own clairvoyant perceptions and readings of the “Akashic Records” to be infallible enough to give him the “true” story of things, regardless of how wildly it might differ from all known facts and inescapable evidence.

HPB failed in her Christian mission, he tells us, but at first she did faithfully serve:

« The Occidental Orders” of Initiates, for whom “binding Blavatsky’s properties direct to the essence of Anglo Saxondom became the object to be attained. … At first matters proceeded as planned, so to say. Indeed, Blavatsky began to acquaint herself with the spiritual life of Central Europe. »

He is referring to her travels in Europe and particularly her visit to Paris in the early 1870s, prior to moving to live in the USA.

All known sources say that she hardly left her room in Paris during the three months she was there and occupied herself mainly with painting and waiting to receive further orders and directions from her Indian Guru, the Master Morya, as to where and when she was to go next. Eventually, as all know, the order came to set sail for New York.

Steiner tells us quite a different story of what was going on during her time in Paris. Over the course of several lectures from 1916, a few years after the Anthroposophical Society was established, he asserted that in Europe HPB worked under very competent leadership for some time and made a good degree of inner progress so that her Western esoteric overseers arranged for her to join a certain Christian Order in Paris. Due to being too demanding and laying down too many inconvenient conditions, she was eventually denied membership and then moved to the USA.

In America, according to Steiner, “she was actually admitted in an occult fraternity and as a result she obtained considerable insight into the objects which such occult fraternities pursue, and also into those which on no account strive for the welfare of humanity. She communicated with American spiritualists who wanted to do away with the teaching of reincarnation. Mediumship was the means to attain this. Such a field of activity was not in Blavatsky’s nature. Therefore she was expelled from this fraternity, the reason given being: An attack on the constitution.”

Again, in 1907, two years before he parted company with the Theosophists and while still a leading figure in the Theosophical Society’s Esoteric Section or School in Europe, Steiner’s attitude towards HPB and the Mahatmas was becoming increasingly negative.

Steiner claimed that when HPB began the Society, it was a distinctly Christian Esoteric effort. “In the time that H.P. Blavatsky wrote Isis Unveiled she was inspired by Rosicrucians,” he said:

« Subsequently Madame Blavatsky became detached from this source of inspiration and was drawn into the sphere of influence of an eastern-oriented form of theosophy. This gave rise to The Secret Doctrine, which contains great truths of a non-Christian character, but great nonsense where the Christian religion is concerned. »

Writing to Edouard Schure, he says that:

« The Society’s first foundation had a pronounced occidental character, and also the book Isis Unveiled, in which H.P. Blavatsky revealed a large number of truths, had such a western character.
. . .
The verities in question have been inspired by the great initiates of the West, who are also known as the initiators of the Rosicrucian wisdom. The distortion mentioned before is caused by the way in which these truths were absorbed by H.P. Blavatsky’s soul. For the educated portion of the world this very fact should have formed the proof that the sources which inspired these truths were of an elevated nature. For never could anyone of himself come to possess these truths which she represented in such a poor manner. »

HPB’s “occidental initiators,” as he calls them, were supposedly disappointed with HPB’s poor quality of writing and inability to clearly express their teachings.

« When they realised how few possibilities this gave them to infuse a stream of spiritual wisdom into humanity, they decided to drop their efforts along these lines. However, the door had been opened, and Blavatsky’s soul had been prepared in such a way that it could absorb spiritual truths. Consequently eastern initiates were in a position to get hold of her.

At first these eastern initiates’ intentions were beneficial. They saw how the imaginative faculty of humanity was running the risk of being materialised completely by Anglo-Americanism. They – these oriental initiators – wanted to infuse into the Western world their form of a spiritual knowledge that had been guarded for centuries on end.

Under the influence of this tendency the ‘Theosophical Society’ got an oriental character, and the same influence inspired Sinnett’s Esoteric Buddhism and Blavatsky’s The Secret Doctrine. However, both works are distortions of the Truth. In Sinnett’s work the valuable statements it contains are distorted by his immature philosophical intellectualism. The contents of The Secret Doctrine are distorted by Blavatsky’s own chaotic soul. »

But these Rudolf Steiner’s asseverations are false because, Master Kuthumi wrote about Sinnett's book:

« Be certain, that with a few undetectable mistakes and omissions notwithstanding, your "Esoteric Buddhism" is the only right exposition — however incomplete — of our Occult doctrines»
(CM 82, p.392)

And Master Kuthumi wrote about Blavatsky's book:

« This work has more value than its predecessor [Isis Unveiled] being The Secret Doctrine an epitome of the hidden truths that will make it a source of information and instruction for the serious student for many years to come. »
(Letters from the Masters of Wisdom, First Series, No. 19, p.55)

Not content with these deceptive slurs, Steiner added, at a meeting of the Esoteric School in Munich on 1st June 1907, that the knowledge of the Eastern Initiates was “in a rigid, petrified form, without any signs of life.”

HPB, he says, wrote “Isis Unveiled” with the aim of presenting esoteric philosophy from a “Central European” perspective, which he declares to be an evident fact for anyone who will read the book, despite it having been written “in a kaleidoscopic, almost useless way.” Her beneficent “guide” “wanted to lead her further on the Central European way” but “she soon came under altogether different influences when she fell into the hands of other individuals.”

He states

« These were the Oriental brotherhoods. When H.P. Blavatsky had written her Isis Unveiled, these brotherhoods claimed that it was their wisdom, for many of the symbols and doctrines mentioned were known to them and they searched for means to frustrate her as much as possible. Thus it was extremely hard for her to carry out her work in the sense of Christian Esotericism, as had been her purpose.

In this period life was indeed exceedingly difficult for her. The occult fraternities in question pressed her forward to such an extent that she was obliged to clothe her second work, The Secret Doctrine, in an Eastern garment. Even now we are accustomed to use Oriental names for most of the concepts embodied in the occult doctrines. Nevertheless, this Eastern form of truth does not at all suit our Western peoples. It can only slow us down and lead us away from our goal. »

Several years later, he informed the Anthroposophists regarding HPB that:

« Her first work, Isis Unveiled, shows us the entirely chaotic, illogical, passionate and contradictory character of her being, but also the fact that the powers behind her were working in a generally human sense.

The Secret Doctrine reveals not only the understandable human interest in special subjects, but also an interest originating from certain occult centres who are not working in a generally human way, but have a particular goal in view, want something specific.

Tibetan, Indian, but also the Egyptian initiation of the moment only want to take revenge on the Western world because of the suppression of Eastern occultism. They wish to revenge the fact that the Western world – due to materialism – has triumphed over the Eastern world. »

Let us put all these assertions into an orderly fashion so we can see exactly what Steiner is saying.

First, he tells us that:

  • HPB’s true and original mission was to further and promote the cause of Christian Esotericism.
  • Her preparatory training and initiation for this task was in the West and primarily in Central Europe.
  • Her guides and inspirers were Western Initiates, including Rosicrucians.
  • The Theosophical Society was founded by her and Col. Olcott in 1875 (he fails to mention William Judge) with a distinctly Western emphasis and character and for beneficent Western occult purposes.
  • Her first book “Isis Unveiled,” published in 1877, also had a distinctly Western emphasis and character and was inspired by “the great initiates of the West.” These inspiring powers were working in a human way.

He then tells us what happened next:

  • These Western Initiates were disappointed with her poor quality of writing and inability to clearly express their teachings and thus decided to give up these efforts.
  • But as her soul had already been prepared and opened up for such a type of work, she became the target of Eastern Initiates, for whom she was effectively an easy prey. They wanted to use her to promulgate their “rigid” and “petrified” knowledge and defeat her Christian aims.
  • They began by claiming that the knowledge in “Isis Unveiled” was their own and sought to frustrate her in her true mission. She was unable to resist their overpowering influence.
  • These Eastern inspirers were working in a non-human way and with the hidden aim of taking revenge on the Western world for it having triumphed over the Eastern world.

Any Theosophist worthy of the name will know that this is all a complete pack of lies.

What makes it the more puzzling is the obvious fact that any of Steiner’s listeners and readers could easily and immediately disprove such notions just by reading “Isis Unveiled” for themselves, which would swiftly show them that things were the very opposite of what he was saying. The very first line in the preface of the book says:

« The work now submitted to public judgment is the fruit of a somewhat intimate acquaintance with Eastern adepts and study of their science. »

On the next page she says that :

« It was while most anxious to solve these perplexing problems [i.e. about spiritual matters] that we came into contact with certain men, endowed with such mysterious powers and such profound knowledge that we may truly designate them as the sages of the Orient. To their instruction we lent a ready ear. »

The book, particularly its second volume, is largely a powerful critique and exposé of the Christian religion whilst at the same time being a promotion of Indian and other Oriental philosophical ideas and teachings, so that at the end of the second volume the summary begins with the words “the reader must keep in mind the fundamental propositions of the Oriental philosophy which we have successively elucidated.”

What then was Steiner talking about?

He had read these words for himself, perhaps many times. One can only assume that he was either extremely and conveniently forgetful or that he was deliberately and consciously deceitful. Whatever the case may have been, he can hardly be viewed in a decent or trustworthy light. Why did no-one challenge him about this?

Again, one can only assume that his many admirers either chose to conveniently forget and overlook what they themselves had read in “Isis Unveiled” or that they had never read the book and never bothered to read it after hearing his potent yet fallacious critiques.

Any decent biography of HPB will show even more just how astoundingly false and impossible are Steiner’s claims about her life, work, and inspiration. We obviously cannot go into great detail in an article such as this but can recommend in particular the book “HPB: The Extraordinary Life and Influence of Helena Blavatsky” by Sylvia Cranston, which is the lengthiest, most extensive, most well researched and referenced, and truly inspiring biography available of HPB.

Suffice it to say briefly here that her mission and work was from the very first an Eastern-inspired and Eastern-themed one; that the most important part of her training, instruction, and preparation for her world mission was in the East, partly in India but particularly in Tibet and the Trans-Himalayan regions; that from even before the Theosophical Society was founded her Adept Guardians identified themselves as Buddhists; and that both before and during the time of the writing of “Isis Unveiled” she described herself to friends, including in an extant letter to American Platonist Dr Alexander Wilder, as being herself “a Tibetan Buddhist” of the esoteric kind.

In addition, his Masters of the East were also personally seen by Colonel Olcott, William Judge and other members of the Theosophical Society, and even much earlier, as was the case with Blavatsky's aunt, who related that when Blavatsky’s members family were very worried because they had no news of she, an oriental man appeared to inform her that Blavatsky was well and that soon she would return and then he disappeared in front of her.

(And her narrative can be read here.)

CONCLUSION

This is one more example of the lies that Rudolf Steiner invented, but if this falsehood reveals a profound dishonesty, his lies about Master Kuthumi are worst (see link).
